When I started thinking about where The Facial Co. Skincare should be stocked, I wanted somewhere that felt like a community, not just a shelf. The Makers Edit in Waurn Ponds turned out to be exactly that.
We launched there in April this year, and with the shop approaching its first birthday in early November, I wanted to share why it’s been so good for my business.
On show seven days a week
I don’t have to be in the shop every day for my skincare to be seen. The Makers Edit works as a team, with everyone taking turns in store, so my products are in front of customers all week. It’s a physical presence without the overheads or the hours of a shop of my own.
An audience from everyone’s business
When you stock with a collective, you don’t just get your own followers, you get everyone’s. My products are seen across the social media of all the businesses involved, which puts The Facial Co. in front of people who might never have found me otherwise.
My hero product: the Hydrating Sheet Mask
If I had to name the product that has shone brightest at The Makers Edit, it’s my Hydrating Sheet Mask. It sells like hotcakes. Seeing customers pick it up, ask about it and come back for more has been one of the most rewarding parts of stocking in store.
Customers who come back
This is my favourite part. Recently, someone told me they know I’m stocked at The Makers Edit now, so they’ll just pop in and grab their product.
A shop that’s open week in, week out gives customers a reliable place to find you again, and that kind of repeat visit is hard to build from occasional markets.
Feedback you can’t get online
Retail lets me watch people try my products in person. I see what they love, what they don’t and what questions they ask. You can’t get that from online orders, and it’s helping me understand what to make next.
A community I’m proud to be part of
The shop has been around for almost a year, and we’ve been part of it since April. The Makers Edit is well known in the area, and being part of it means The Facial Co. Skincare is known too. There’s a team behind it and a loyal local following, and it already feels like home.
